Friday October 9

History 421- Students should read Chapter 4 Section1 Ancient Greece: Begininngs. Watched “TROY” today.

Law 531- We continued Chapter 5 Human Rights. Be sure to complete the nine terms listed on the board and define each. Students should also be working on their scrapbook project.

Law 521- Continued our work on Chapter 5 Human Rights. We discussed the slideshow notes and finished class by working on the assigned questions page 115 #1-2, page119 #4-5, page 129 #1-2.

Tuesday October 6

History 421- Quiz took most of the period today. Students can read pages 92-93 as an introduction to ancient Greece.

Law 531- Today we completed a class review of Chapter 4 for the short quiz tomorrow. Students should be working on their scrapbook projects.

Law 521- Watched Double Jeopardy. Also received Ch.4 assignments back to use as a study guide for the Ch.4 Quiz on Thursday.

Monday October 5

History 421- We completed a review of the material for the Chapter2 & 3 Quiz tomorrow.

Law 531- Reminder to any student that did not pass in the Chapter 4 assignment must do so ASAP.

Law 521- We completed several exercises as a group from the Chapter 4 review in the textbook. The Chapter 4 Quiz will be Thursday. We began our new unit on Human Rights (Ch.5). We then started video Double Jeopardy.

Friday October 2

History 421- We went over the assignment/questions on the Hebrews (if you were absent give completed assignment to me Monday). We also examined the Persian empire and some key Persian Kings. We will have a quiz on Tuesday on Ch2 &3 of the sections highlighted in class.

Law 531- Students completed the assignment/questions on the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Students were also given time to collect articles for the scrapbook project due in two weeks.

Law 521- Students were given the class to complete the Chapter 4 assignment that is to be passed in by Monday. Reminder, you should be working on your scrapbook project.

Wednesday September 30

History 421- Read Chapter 3 Section 2 The Hebrews. Today we briefly discussed Abraham, Jacob, and Moses.

Law 531- Completed our discussion on the legal rights outlined in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Law 521- Began Chapter 4. Discussed rights versus freedoms, historical roots of individual rights, Canadian Bill of Rights, and the creation/addition of the Charter to the constitution. Students should be working daily on their scrapbook project.

Tuesday September 29

History 421- Discussed Sargon I and Hammurabi and the significance/influence they had in Mesopotamia. Briefly examined the early India civilization. We finished class by starting Chapter 3…it would be a good idea to read Chapter 3 Section 1. Reminder, the mini-research paper is due Friday.

Law 531- Reviewed the difference between a right and a freedom. We examined the Charter and what it means for each of us as Canadian citizens.

Law 521- Class wrote the Ch.3 Quiz. After the quiz students worked on the following: read pages 77-83 and then complete questions #1-4 on page 83.

Monday September 28

History 421- Class spent the period in the library working on the mini-research report assigned today. This 2 page typed double spaced report is due Friday. Make sure it is in your own words and all sources are included (use citation machine website to create a MLA format works cited page).

Law 531- Discussed rights versus freedoms. Examined Canada’s record on human rights. Discussed the Bill of Rights (1960) and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms (1982).

Law 521- Students worked on the list of questions for review in preparation for the Chapter 3 Quiz tomorrow.

Friday September 25

History 421- The Terry Fox walk was held at the begininng of class. After that we corrected the questions on ancient Sumer. Students can complete the two questions on Sargon I and Hammurabi.

Law 531- We spent the class in the library working on the Scrapbook project.

Law 521- Watched the documentary on  Allan Legere, a murder from NB, that had the very first criminal case using DNA evidence in Canada. Reminder, the Ch. 3 Quiz is Tuesday.

Thursday September 24

History 421- Class wrote the ancient Egypt quiz. Remainder of class students worked on the set of questions pertaining to the Sumerians. Finish these questions for homework.

Law 531- We reviewed the process for a law to be created in Canada. We also disussed and watched the documentary about Allan Legere from NB. This was the first time DNA Evidence was used in Canadian courts.

Law 521- Students received Ch.2 Quiz back. We went over the steps of how a law is passed in Parliament (Ch.3) as well completed question #1 page 70. Things to keep in mind for law class: Scrapbook project…start collecting articles and Ch.3 Quiz will be Tues.

Tuesday September 22

History 421- You must complete the ancient Egypt worksheet/review for homework and study for the Quiz Thursday.

Law 531- Chapter 2 assignments were completed and passed in today. If you missed it, make sure you get one and pass it in!

Law 521- Discussed changes to the Canadian Constitution, especially key changes added in 1982: equalization, natural resources, amending formula, and the Charter (read text page 57-61).  Study for the Ch. 2 Quiz tomorrow.
